Publishers Weekly announced this past week that Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena had been named Bookseller of the Year. Dee and I were thrilled. For the past nine years it's been Village Books' privilege and pleasure to be part of a group of twenty-five stores--the Independent Booksellers Consortium--including Vroman's, who meet together regularly to share ideas and best practices. IBC stores have won this prestigious honor for six years in a row. In a time when we all dread hearing of another bookstore closing, Vroman's is celebrating its 115th year in business. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to Vroman's President and COO, Allison Hill, to Joel Sheldon, owner and CEO and to all of the folks at Vroman's. This is a store that's worth going a long way out of your way to see. And, Pasadena is a great place to visit.
Vroman's was my childhood bookstore because Pasadena was where I grew up. Cool!
