From Leonard:
Looking up into the stormy sky above, she tried to find the silver linings of the clouds.
‘Look for a path through the clouds that shimmers as if it were lined in silver’, her father had told her, ‘it will take you away and free you’. The words hung in her memory over the years, yet she had never understood the meaning, nor found a silver lining. She had not seen her father after that day. He had passed over during a low solar storm. Once every ten years the suns were low in the horizon and clouds enveloped the world in the fading light. This was the time and the stormy sky, sea of gray and black clouds stretched to the horizon. She scanned the sky for a glint or sparkle that might point to a silver lining - nothing. The clap of thunder caused her to turn and there in the distance, a flash of silver. Another. A hole in the clouds formed and moved toward her, it pulled her toward its silver glow. She felt the weight of her used up body pulling on her as she inched toward the glow. The body that had that provided for and sustained her, was now a weight that held her down. She knew it was time to shed this burden and forced herself toward the glimmering light. The silver cloud funnel stretched downward from the clouds. She rose up through the silvery tunnel toward the light and burst into a warm blue sky. Her past slide away as new wings grew from the shell of her old body and gave her flight. She stretched her new-found appendages and felt the warming sun drying the moisture from her and giving her strength to fly. Fly to her freedom.
